South Africa lockdown. Can we stop it?
We are now feeling the bite of the Covid-19 virus.
On Monday 23 March 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africa will be on a National lockdown from Thursday 26 March until 16 April 2020.
Currently we have 554 officially reported Covid-19 cases. This means there was a jump of 152 cases in one day. This is the largest increase in any day since the outbreak in South Africa. Two people are in ICU but no deaths reported so far.
We all know about the “curve” and yes we also want to flatten it. Squash would have been better but I see nobody is going for that so flat like a pancake it will be then.
It’s very positive to see that all the political parties are supporting this lockdown. Our biggest fear is that the virus spreads to the poorest communities were HIV-AIDS and TB are also prevalent. The consent is that our president had no other option.
The movement of all citizens will strictly be controlled, and only essential services personnel will be allowed to move around. With a population of more than 58 million, this lockdown will have a huge impact on South Africa.
