My perspective from South Africa:

The unemployment rate in South Africa is 30% plus, some say even as high as 38%. There are people on street corners begging and sitting at home without bread and sometimes without water. And this was before the coronavirus.

The minimum wage is about $1,30 per hour and the average wage is about $11,30 per hour in South Africa.

I think the Amazon working conditions are definitely not wonderful or ideal.

But I also think that our country would have been ecstatic to have a Mr. Bezos starting an Amazon here, if our laws, unions, political parties and so on and on…would have allowed it.

And this is PRE-corona!
